Some places stay with you. For us at Kora & Co., Nepal is one of them — and our Nepal inspired merchandise is the most visible way that connection shows up in what we do. This is the story behind it: what draws us to the country, how it shapes the way our space feels, and what you will find on our shelves.
What Nepal Means to Us
Nepal is a country of remarkable range. It is home to more than a hundred recognised ethnic groups and over a hundred spoken languages, and that plurality shows up everywhere — in the food, the festivals, the music, the architecture of a Kathmandu courtyard or a hillside village. It is also a place with a thriving contemporary culture: designers, ceramicists, musicians, coffee growers and writers making new work, not only preserving old work.
That is the Nepal we want to point to — not a postcard, and not a single mountain. A country people actually live in, cook in, build in and create in.
The Culture and Traditions That Inspire Our Brand
Two things in particular shape how we think about our own space. The first is hospitality. Being welcomed in Nepal often means being fed, seated and given time — the quiet assumption that a guest is not an interruption. That is the feeling we want people to have when they walk through our door.
The second is craft. Woodcarving, weaving, metalwork and pottery all have long traditions there, and what strikes us is the patience in them: objects made to be used every day, and made to last. It is a useful standard to hold yourself to, whether you are making a cup of coffee or choosing what to put on a shelf.
How Nepal Influences Our Products and Experience
You will probably notice it before you notice the merchandise. It is in the warmth of the colours, the way the seating is arranged so people linger rather than turn over, the spiced drinks on the menu, and the fact that nobody is hurried out. None of that is decoration for its own sake — it is the same idea of hospitality, translated into a room.
Our Nepal-Inspired Merchandise
Alongside the coffee, we keep a small collection of Nepal-inspired pieces. We think of them as objects with a story rather than souvenirs. A mug you reach for every morning does more to keep a place close than something that sits in a drawer, which is why we would rather stock a few things people genuinely use than a wall of trinkets.
You can see what is currently in stock on our merchandise page, or just ask when you are in — the range changes as we add new designs.
The Story Behind Each Design
Every piece starts with something specific: a pattern, a colour, the memory of a particular street or season. We would rather release a handful of designs we can actually explain than a shelf full we cannot. If you pick something up and want to know where it came from, ask us — there is always an answer, and it is usually more interesting than the object itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of Nepal-inspired merchandise do you offer?
A small, changing collection of everyday pieces. The current range is on our merchandise page, and we are happy to talk you through it in person.
Are your products made in Nepal?
Our designs are inspired by Nepal. If you want to know exactly where a particular piece was produced, please ask us — we would rather give you a straight answer about a specific item than make a blanket claim.
What makes these different from typical Nepal gifts?
Each design comes from something particular rather than a generic mountain graphic, and we can tell you what that something was.
Do I need a connection to Nepal to enjoy them?
Not at all. Some of our customers grew up there, some have never visited. The objects work either way.
Can I ask about a piece before coming in?
Of course. Send us a message and we will tell you what is on the shelf.
